Innovative companies can adapt by moving their best people around their organisation.

Let me explain the problem with your best performers is that they become the focus and focal point of your outcomes. They stay in their positions and their team office and stagnate. In most businesses and sports teams, your leaders will rise to the occasion you need them, but like most high performers, they need to move and change to stimulate growth in your organisation.

The team outweighs any measures of success. An individual who scores a goal, a try, can do that because of the group. A Richie McCaw would not play the Springboks by himself or Ardie Savea! Well, they probably can if there were clones of them!

Sports teams can move their people around, even their leaders.

Are there people you can move around your organisation?

Would you move your talent around?

Here are key strategies to change what I have experienced that works.

1. Be Transparent-In your annual company meetings, outline your vision of innovation and start to imbed ways to change in the organisation.

2. Be Open-Leaders who welcome change and innovation will be open to everyone's views, even the office clerk, cleaners and chef.

3. Be Visionary-Outline a roadmap to change; start with stories of change in your own life. Show your people your other side and inspire them.
